Q & A for glassblowing lesson
Q: I don’t have any experience, can I still have a lesson?
A: Yes. This program is designed for beginners and people with no experience what-so-ever with glass blowing. We only take 14 years or older and you must be relatively fit as glass blowing needs strength and lung power, but you don’t have to have any special qualifications to do this course.
Q: How long the class last for?
A: One hour. We start preparing the class an hour and a half before, and items that are created will be processed over night in the kiln. This class is only to give an taste of what glassblowing is like to inexperienced people. This class does not count for any glassblowing qualification, or training to become a glassblower.
Q: Can three people be in a class, instead of just two?
A: Yes, three people is possible, but the lesson will start earlier at 8:30am, instead, of 9am and will finish at 10am. We can’t have more than three people.
Q: Can lessons take place on a weekday, not a weekend?
A: Yes, weekday morning lessons can be arranged. Please contact us and arrange a date to suit.
Q: Can you do a class for a large group of people?
A: No. We can’t do large groups as glassblowing is difficult, especially seeing as you will be unfamiliar with the tools and equipment. There are only two instructors, both who will help one individual at a time.
Q: What do we create in our lesson?
A: You get a choice to create one of either a small vase, small bowl, or small plate. You also will choose the colour from the selection of ‘blue mix’, ‘green mix’ or ‘pink mix’.
If you take a class alone, you will make 2 items and if you come as a couple then you will make one item each.
Q: Can we take home our creation that day?
A:No. As the glass needs to be processed in the kiln over night. You can pick up the piece the following day, or arrange for it to be mailed to you.
Q: Are there longer lessons, or lessons over more days?
A: Not at this stage. Although one hour seems like a short period of time, there is a a lot of hard work put in, and by the end of the hour students and teachers are quite exhausted. Glass blowing is very fast and needs a lot of energy.
Q: What is included in the fee?
A: The fee includes GST, Glass material, use of workshop tools & facilities for the class, tuition and assistance (Everything beginners need).
Q: Can I do my own design or choose a different colour from the selection?
A: No. As glassblowing takes many years of training to master, it will be difficult to modify the design to your liking.
